Canan Erek (born 1968 in Istanbul/Turkey)

She began dancing classical ballet in Ankara. In 1987 Canan moved to Germany to study contemporary dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, where she graduated in 1991 under the direction of Pina Bausch.
From 1992 to 1996 she continued her academic studies in choreography at the Ernst Busch Hochschule für Schauspielkunst in Berlin. After completing her studies, she has focused exclusively on choreography and solo projects in Berlin.

From 2004 to 2007 she served as artistic director of the Leipziger Tanztheater in Leipzig.

Since 2007 she is living and working again in Berlin.
